Get to know Rachael
I express my creativity via writing – putting words down on paper is my absolute favourite way to feel like myself. I’m a beauty writer in my day job, but I adore writing for fun too.
How does this bring you joy?
I’ve been writing since I was a little girl. It’s always been the ultimate form of escapism for me. I feel like I can create all sorts of stories that provide joy. Even if it’s only myself reading it, I feel a little bit of pride at what I’ve achieved.
Who or what is your creative inspiration?
It’s a mixture of everything - the clothes I wear, the décor in my house, the people who I love, living in London, pining after my home in Northern Ireland. I think, like most, my creative inspiration comes from the world around me.
How did you start your creative journey?
I first started my creative journey as a writer by writing at least something every night. Even writing a line in my diary felt like a step forward. The more I wrote, the more invested I felt it in my words, until it eventually became my career.
What advice would give someone embarking on a journey of creative self-expression?
It’s cliché, but don’t be afraid of what others think. People are too wrapped up in their own lives to worry about you, honestly! Do what you want to do, when you want to do it and you’ll reap the rewards.
