Be the best-dressed wedding guest with our 5 outfit ideas

Wedding season is here, and chances are you have an invite or two scheduled in your diary for a friend or loved one’s big day. If you’re looking for wedding guest outfit ideas, our fashion styling team have pulled together some of their most-loved outfits, styling tips and favourite trends for 2024 to make sure you’re the best-dressed guest.

1. The destination wedding

If you're lucky enough to be invited to a wedding overseas, you’re more than likely to be dressing for sunshine. ‘Embrace the heat with one of our standout printed jumpsuits (because why should dresses have all the fun?),’ says our Fashion Stylist Lynda Bell. ‘Obviously, sunglasses are a must so you’re not squinting in the photos, so go bigger and better to really up the glam stakes.’ The trend for stacking bracelets is still going strong, so Lynda recommends finishing off your look by curating your own gold, silver or mixed-metal stack ready to catch the sunlight.

2. The wedding reception

Not invited to the whole day? No problem, you can bring fresh energy to the evening celebrations with a polished Studio-54-inspired disco look. ‘Perfect for dancing away the night, we paired a sleek jersey jumpsuit with platform heels and waterfall-drop earrings’ says Lynda. 'Take a pair of shimmery flats along to change into for when your dancing feet get tired.’

3. The garden wedding

Florals, sunshine, canapes, fondant-pink dresses – it doesn’t get much more summery than a countryside or garden wedding. ‘When it comes to wedding guest dresses, shimmer is never a bad thing, and the metallic thread detailing on this midi adds a sparkle as you wander across the lawn,’ says Lynda. ‘Such a gorgeous shape, with flattering floaty cap sleeves and a tie belt to create shape. Metallic clutch bags are always a winner for weddings, and when it comes to hair accessories for wedding guests, a bejewelled headband will bring the look together.’

4. The city wedding

‘For city or town hall wedding guest outfits, we love the idea of including a piece of tailoring to finish off your look,’ says Lynda. ‘As we’re huge fans of colour and print here at OB, this bright printed wedding guest dress and bold blazer combo is perfect.’ Lynda recommends block heels for a slightly more casual event and adding some sparkle with trending silver jewellery.

5. The black tie wedding

‘Ahh, the most iconic of dress codes - who doesn’t love the idea of full-on glamour?’ says Lynda. ‘Look for longer midi and maxi dresses to hit the right note,’ she recommends. ‘Silks and satins and metallic tones add luxury, and with such a statement cowl neckline, you won’t need a necklace. Standout earrings and eye-catching hair slides will be all you need, and of course an impactful resin clutch bag, keeping your hands free for the toasts.’
