Kate Salmon

HEAD OF BUYING

Kate leads a team of 16 who cover the buying side of OB’s Home & Gift products. They work alongside the design and merchandising teams to develop up to 1,000 new lines a year, produced all over the world. Kate joined the business in 2013 and enjoys the varied nature of her work and helping curate distinctive and uplifting product ranges that continue to excite our customers.

A typical day for Kate can involve negotiating with suppliers, troubleshooting challenges with product development, coordinating photoshoots and discussing the marketing plans of new collections. Ultimately, Kate’s aim is to get the products in the best place they can be ready for sign-off with Olly and the heads of design and merchandising.

Developing new product ranges is one of the most creative parts of Kate’s role, as we are designing pieces that we want people to love and cherish for a long time. We have the benefit of working with specialist artisan suppliers whose craftmanship is showcased through our ranges, and Kate's team always puts a lot of consideration into colour, print, texture and shape. Keeping our collections fresh and unexpected is always the priority, and we always aim to add that little bit extra, as that’s what we’ve become known for as a brand.

I am lucky to work with amazingly talented people and I get a lot of enjoyment from seeing my team develop and watching new collections take shape each season. I still get a kick when I spot an Oliver Bonas piece in a friend’s house, knowing how much thought and care have gone into all the details. It’s a happy environment to work in and I think that shines through in our products.
