Buon appetito! Behind the design of our Mediterranean-inspired tableware

Our spring/summer 2026 homeware collections were inspired by the colourful exuberance of the Mediterranean islands, capturing a sense of laidback luxury and playful holiday energy. Prints, patterns and design motifs were derived from a diverse array of art, sculpture, market scenes and signage spotted on the island of Ibiza.

The Home & Gift Team brought this sense of relaxed, joyful escapism into our tableware ranges to create vibrant pieces that celebrate effortless sunshine living and coming together to enjoy a meal. We caught up with the team to find out more about the inspiration behind the collections and how they were created.

Freshly picked

With spring/summer gatherings on the horizon, the Home & Gift Team transported us to the Amalfi coast, weaving an uplifting holiday-at-home mood throughout the collections. From our lemon-adorned Buon Appetito tableware to a festival of fresh produce and floral features across textiles and glassware, it’s a feast of juicy design details.

Colourful embossed fruit and tulip motifs feature on our vases and glassware ranges, including an exclusive design for a cocktail punch jug and matching tumblers. Orange spritz goblets and limoncello shot glasses join the collection ready for standout summer sipping.

Early designs came to life in our on-site creative studios, where the team decided on colour combinations, sketched initial ideas and brought designs together with oil pastels and watercolour paints. Drawings and paintings were translated into digital CADs ready to be translated onto product, and the samples were hand-finished by our skilled suppliers.
Hero pieces in the range include our show-stopping Lola vase and olive oil bottle and Luca plant pot designs. ‘In addition to our usual ceramic shapes, we have explored more experimental silhouettes, including a sculptural lemon option,’ explains Head of Home & Gift Design, Kate Butler. ‘The original ceramic mould was hand-carved to create the 3D lemon effect, and the details were individually hand-painted, making each piece unique.’

Time to tapas

Setting the scene for alfresco dining, our characterful tapas pieces are all about catching up with friends to gather and graze over sharing platters and relaxed meals. 'We wanted to create a summertime tablescape to transport you to the Mediterranean, with shared snacking plates and kitchen accessories that incorporate colourful fresh produce designs,’ explains Senior Home & Gift Designer Anna Proctor.

The designs for the collection came together easily as the team soaked up the colours and energy of market day on an inspiration trip to Ibiza. ‘We worked in a very mixed media way – oil pastels and pencil inspired by hastily drawn menus on taverna chalkboards,’ says Anna. ‘Graphic text was contrasted with simple hand-painted food motifs we’d seen on grocery packaging.’
The range includes colourful glazed bowls and tapas plates decorated with fun food motifs, as well as vibrant kitchen textiles, including pomodoro and sardine-design tea towels and oven gloves. It’s a playful, laidback collection that sits within the colourful carnival of fruity homeware designs to deliver a sun-soaked ‘supper with a sea view’ feel.
