Modern mosaic
Putting the art in artisan
It takes around four hours for a small section of detailed mosaic to be finished. Made by skilled craftsmen in Rajasthan, India, each bone tile is individually cut to size, before being laid by hand in all-over geometric and floral designs.
Colour in the lines
Once the pattern has been set, the pieces are sanded before layers of colourful resin are applied in pink, blue and green shades. The resin is mixed by hand to create variations in the finish that are unique to each piece.
It’s in the detail
From the first tile being laid to its final wax and polish, it takes around six days to make a Lohko design. The finishing touch comes in the form of shiny brass drawer pulls, plus a set of foot levellers that keep the pieces even on wonky floors.
More on the material
Hand-carved by our master craftsmen in Rajasthan, the bone we use in these furniture pieces is buffalo bone and is a by-product of the meat industry. The bone we use in all our pieces will never be obtained from exotic, wild-caught or endangered animals.
“Our Lohko designs are pieces of functional art. They’re designed to bring colour into the home, with loud, playful patterns you can’t stop looking at. They make the perfect pairing to our metallic homeware designs, which are so on-trend for this season.”
