OB Talks: Tea with teapigs
There is nothing better than a good cup of tea to soothe the mind and body. Our AW18 Home & Gift collection Hana, takes inspiration from traditional daily routines of Japanese culture, one in particular was the art of tea making.
Our design team wanted to use this inspiration and our love of tea drinking to create our own OB tea blend, one that promoted relaxation and a healthy well-being. Together with the experts from teapigs our design team got to work, testing out different blends and finally creating our exclusive OB Green Tea and Jasmine Tea.
To boost our trivia on tea we spoke to our friends at teapigs..
We love a good cup of tea, tell us how teapigs was born
Nick and Louise co-founded teapigs in 2006 to get everyone drinking real tea again. They’re both utter tea nuts! On Louise’s travels she’d discovered all sorts of wonderful teas, but these teas were not available in the UK market 10 + years ago. Tea was predominantly tea and the availability of ‘Fancy’ teas was limited to the high-end London food halls. Herbal infusions were in limited availability in the mainstream market, not that great tasting and consequently not that popular. We were a nation of tea drinkers who had got stuck in a very average tea rut. They wanted to change all that! It became their mission to make real, quality tea accessible to everyone – and to have some fun with it – chocolate and mint tea anyone?
Educate us with some of your favourite tea facts.
All teas come from the same plant – whether it’s black, green, white or oolong – it’s the way they’re produced that makes them different.
Pound per pound, tea leaves contain more caffeine than coffee, but you use less tea leaves to make a cup of tea, so a cup of tea contains less caffeine than a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
The UK gets through 165 million cups of tea a day – that’s more than twice the amount of coffee we get through.
The rich tea biscuit was declared best biscuit for dunking because it can withstand the most dunks without crumbling – they tested it with robots!
Turkey is the country that gets through the most tea in the world.
What are the health benefits of drinking our new Jasmine & Green Tea blend?
Green tea contains all-natural green tea flavonoids…. which have an antioxidant effect on the body – helping to protect against ageing and cell damage. Because green tea contains caffeine and a special amino acid called L-theanine, it’s known to help boost energy, metabolism and concentration. It also just tastes deliciously, delicate and soothing.
Give us tips for brewing the perfect cup of Green Tea.
Green tea leaves are delicate and if the water you use it’s too hot, it will burn the leaves and could make the tea taste bitter. The ideal temperature for the water is 60-80 degrees…. If you don’t have one of those fancy kettles that you can boil to different temperatures, then just click the kettle off before it boils, or wait a minute or so after it has boiled. It is worth it!
