Festival accessories style guide

The season of live music is here, but what to wear? With the inevitable unpredictable weather, festival style brings with it the challenge of dressing for multiple seasons in one day. We asked our Fashion and Jewellery teams for some bold and bright festival outfit and accessory recommendations to get you gig-ready.

The crochet bag

Undoubtedly the it-bag of the summer, crochet styles work hard long after festival season is over. Whether it’s a roomy net bag for all your daytime essentials or a raffia belt bag with a festival feel, this nostalgic craft has returned to our wardrobes with a fresh, modern look.

The metallic boots

You won’t go far without seeing a pair of cowboy boots this season, regardless of the festival. Score some extra style points and catch the light while you’re dancing by choosing a metallic pair. ‘All day comfort doesn’t mean playing it safe. Style-wise, more is more,’ advises Fashion Stylist, Lynda Bell. ‘This is the event you’ve looked forward to for months, go for it, wear the sequins, the colour and feel the joy.’

The layered necklace

The key to festival style lies in the finishing touches. Think ring stacking, chunky necklaces, and bold bangles. ‘Layering with finer jewellery pieces is always your friend and gives you the option to mix and match over the weekend,’ says Jewellery Buyer, Lianna Sheppard.

Our expert says

‘Festival styling means hands-free – you need to be able to carry drinks and dance without worrying about a bag slipping off. Where you can, look for crossbodies, bottle carriers and phone bags.’

– LYNDA BELL, FASHION STYLIST

The cowboy hat

On the rise thanks to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and Beyonce’s Renaissance, cowboy hats are an easy go-to for summer festivals. Choose an elevated style with a metallic finish or colourful ribbon. ‘If hats aren’t your style, festival hair accessories are also a great way to make a statement – think printed headbands and sparkly clips,’ says Lianna.

The statement hoops

‘When it comes to festival jewellery, statement earrings are a must,’ says Lianna. ‘Injecting a bit of rainbow and sparkle is always fun - festival or otherwise.’ Bright colours are synonymous with summer style, so try working them in where you can.

The playful sunglasses

Heart-shaped sunglasses are a fun festival choice. Handy for when the sun (hopefully) makes an appearance, or even to wear as part of your hairstyle. Pair with a vibrant headscarf that serves as a neckerchief, headband, wrist band or colourful accessory to tie on your bag.
