OB Talk’s Sun Care with Mimitika

We all know that wearing sun cream everyday should be an essential part of our skincare routine, but sometimes it’s rather easy to forget the SPF in the pursuit of fun in the sun and a great tan.
We spoke to Audrey Delort-Laval founder of Mimitika, the sun care brand made for sun lovers to learn how to stay safe and still get the best sun-kissed tan.

We are passionate about sun care. Tell us how Mimitika was born?

While I was working at Chanel, I found a study that explained that by 2020, 1 out of 6 Europeans would experience a skin cancer in their lifetimes. Although the regular use of sunscreen actively reduces the risk of skin cancer, I noticed that too many people are still reluctant to wear sunscreen. Oily and sticky textures, white cast – sometimes we have the feeling that we’d rather put on toothpaste than sunscreen! At that moment something clicked in my mind: create suncare products that people would love to wear. MIMITIKA’s idea was born.

We know how important sun protection is but as you know it’s not always that enjoyable to apply. What is different about the Mimitika formula?

Give us your top tips for staying safe in the sun?

Tip 1: You may already know it, but it works 100% of the time: wear sunscreen! The best way to wear sunscreen is by applying it all over the body 15 min before sun exposure and reapplying it every 2 hours. (pro tip: to ensure good application get a thorough partner! – hello to my partner Bradley).
Tip 2: Get yourself the total fashion MIMITIKA’s babe look: a super large straw hat, a pair of cool MIB (Men in Black) sunglasses and a colourful beach umbrella!
Tip 3: Hydration is the key (both to avoid heatstroke and have a glowing tan). Stay hydrated with a virgin Piña Colada (our favourite summer cocktail).

What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?

A sexy tiny bikini is NEVER a good idea when going to Hossegor in the enormous waves. You must choose a one-piece swimsuit when swimming in the wild ocean of South West of France.

The back of your feet can also get sun burnt. Don’t forget to protect your feet with sun screen or do not fall asleep on your stomach under the sun.
