Leather care guide
Stylish and durable, leather accessories and clothing were made to last, and used regularly will develop a beautiful patina. Our Garment Technologist Breda Conlon advises the following to look after your leather and ensure it ages well:
Small marks can be reduced by lightly buffing the leather with a dry cloth.
For heavier stains, use a damp cloth, but be careful not to get the cloth too wet as this could mark the leather. If the stain is from a leaky biro or red wine or oil, take your leather to the dry cleaners for advice.
Store your leather in a cool, dry place away from direct heat sources such as radiators, or extreme temperatures, as this can dry out the leather and age it.
Avoid wet weather. If it’s raining heavily, leave your best leather bag or jacket at home. But if it does get wet, dab it gently with a dry cloth then allow it to dry naturally away from heat sources. Do not store your leather when wet as it can go mouldy.
